Howdy Omna folks!

I hope you all had a festive and safe Halloweekend - I know I sure did. I recently moved to LA and man, the costumes in Hollywood were on another level! I saw everything from realistic zombies and fully-armored knights, to a guy dressed as Rick Astley who real-life Rickrolled me: (Me: “Who are you supposed to be?” / Him: “I’m never.” / Me: “Huh?” / Him: “I’m never gonna give you up 🎵”). Your favorite recruiting team had a little celebration of our own during our Monday morning meeting, complete with costumes and horror movie trivia led by Captain Aaron.

A captain, Velma (Scooby Doo), Yzma (Emperor’s New Groove), a safari man, Wednesday Addams, and a masked man (?) walk into a bar…

Although Halloween is over now, there’s still been some spooky stuff happening in the tech world recently: a survey conducted by KPMG revealed that 90% of CEOs in the US are expecting a recession soon, and the hiring freezes and layoffs being announced by some of the biggest players in the game might be a glimpse of what’s to come: 

• At the end of September, Meta announced a hiring freeze and a plan to downsize for the first time ever 

• This week, Amazon decided to pause hiring for their corporate workforce, on top of the corporate retail hiring freeze that was announced by the company last month 

• Apple followed suit, tapping the breaks on hiring for any roles outside of their research and development (R&D) team

• Twitter is never one to be left out of the drama, as the company’s new head honcho, Elon Musk, plans to eliminate around 3,700 jobs (50% layoff) over the next week 

• Significant layoffs were also announced this week by Lyft (13% layoff) and Stripe (14%)
